Donald Formey, a student of Barkley L. Hendricks at Connecticut College, and Tyrone Smith, a passerby Hendricks met in Philadelphia, are contrasted on this double-sided, reusable shopper.
Existing on red and pink monochromatic backgrounds, respectively, Formey and Smith evoke varying emotions. Formey is relatively chill in a red-and-yellow patterned jacket, silver bangle, tambourine in hand, while Smith is lively in his denim overalls, a white collared shirt, and a tote bag styled to resemble a clutch.
This shopper was created in celebration of Hendricks’s legacy and the Frick’sBarkley L. Hendricks: Portraits at the Frick exhibition, on view at the Frick Madison through January 7, 2024.
