Frequency

Now considered canonical exhibitions within contemporary art history, the Studio Museum’s “F” shows, inaugurated with Freestyle in 2001, have been widely recognized for their role in advancing innovative and groundbreaking dialogues around art and uplifting the work of emerging artists of African descent.  

Nearly five years later after the Museum's groundbreaking exhibition Freestyle (2001) , Frequency continued the tradition of identifying emerging artists and exploring the concept of "post-Black" with a new group of artists.

Co-curated by Thelma Golden and former Associate Curator Christine Y. Kim, this exhibition featured select artistsincluding Nick Cave, Isaac Diggs, Leslie Hewitt, Rodney McMillian, Wardell Milan, Adam Pendleton, Robert Pruitt, Xaviera Simmons, Hank Willis Thomas, and Mickalene Thomas, among others. Select contributors include Romi Crawford, Malik Gaines, SandraJackson-Dumont, TumeloMosaka, Franklin Sirmans, Zoé Whitley, and more.
